Composition shingle roofs are built from asphalt shingles. They are the most common type of roof and are less expensive than tile.
Wood shake roofs are made of wood shingles and are typically chosen more for their aesthetic quality. They don’t last as long as composition or tile and are not as common. Be prepared for an increase in homeowner’s insurance with this type of roof due to its higher risk of fire.
Tile roofs are made from concrete formed tile. They last the longest of any roof and are on the higher end in cost. The roof of your home must be engineered to withhold the weight and are usually done on new home builds for this reason.
